The Selkirk Parent Group is an independent group of the Pacific Montessori Society, dedicated to fundraising and building community in support of Selkirk Montessori School.
Families contribute time, ideas and support to help children learn, feel connected and enjoy school life. The SPG is a parent collective; school administration and governance are handled separately.

2025–2026: historical team profiles

Cheryl B., Chair
Cheryl joined the school community in 2010 when her daughter entered the Chickadee preschool class. Since then, two of Cheryl’s three children have joined the ranks of Selkirk alumni, with her youngest dreaming of his turn in the senior class. Cheryl began her participation in the Selkirk Parent Group as a member of the Hot Lunch Team, and currently serves as SPG Chair. In her life outside of school, Cheryl commits her time to supporting her family (three kids in three different schools!) and enjoys running, reading and consuming coffee.
Sarah B., Vice Chair
Sarah joined the Selkirk community in 2020 when her daughter started preschool. In 2023, Sarah’s younger son also joined the school community. Sarah has enjoyed volunteering with the school over the past four years, and was thrilled to officially join the Selkirk Parent Group in 2023. Sarah has been a business owner for 11 years, and also enjoys yoga, gardening and hiking.
Erik M., Secretary
Erik joined the Selkirk community in 2024 when his daughter joined the Chickadee preschool class, and his son joined in 2025. After attending his first SPG meeting he knew he had to jump in and join the team in supporting Selkirk and all of the incredible learning, activities and events the school has to offer. Erik serves as Head of Revenue for a software company and outside of work enjoys as much family time and outdoor time as he can get.
Asal T., Treasurer
Asal has been a part of the Selkirk community since 2022 when her son first joined as a preschooler in the Eagle class. After having a rewarding experience as a volunteer member of the auction planning committee in 2023, Asal was eager to further her involvement in the SPG, fostering connections with fellow parents and actively contributing to the school community. Beyond her involvement with Selkirk, Asal holds a position as a faculty member within the UBC Faculty of Pharmacy. Outside of work, she enjoys engaging in DIY projects, staying active by running and biking, all while trying to keep up with the boundless energy of her two boys.
Amalia C., Communications Coordinator
Amalia’s family has deep roots at Selkirk: her mom was founder Karen Colussi, and she attended the school when it was located on the Oaklands school grounds. Amalia has two children at Selkirk and she’s been formally involved with the Selkirk Parent Group since 2022. Amalia is a User Experience (UX) Researcher & Writer at a tech company and enjoys sewing, hiking and playing with her puppy, Luna, in her spare time.
